Ontario, British Columbia, and Prince Edward Island (PEI) have recently issued invitations in their Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draws. The PNP facilitates shared responsibility for immigration between provincial and federal governments, allowing provinces to select skilled candidates to address local labor force gaps and contribute to their economies.
Ontario, British Columbia, and Prince Edward Island Extend Invitations in Latest PNP Draws
- Increased Nomination Chances: Being nominated by a province significantly raises a candidate’s chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence. Express Entry candidates who receive a provincial nomination also gain an additional 600 Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points, virtually ensuring an ITA in future draws.
- Allocation based on Immigration Levels Plan: Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) allocates available PNP nominations to each province based on the targets outlined in the Immigration Levels Plan, which sets the goal for permanent resident admissions over the next three years.
- Provinces Seeking Autonomy: Provinces have expressed interest in more autonomy over economic immigration, similar to Quebec’s authority under the Canada-Quebec Accord. While individual agreements haven’t been reached yet, a new initiative from IRCC called the Provincial Immigration Levels Plan has been ratified to outline provincial nomination allocations for the coming years.
